Workflow

Today I’m going to use a scene from a personal project I’ve been working on to show you my animation workflow.

I will start by sketching out a couple characters from different angles.

To get a better idea for how a 2d character may move and feel, I will use the character concepts to recreate the characters in a 3d space and rig them using Blender. (I will only use this step for more long term projects or animations with complex movements).

Next I will use an image from my *storyboard *(not shown) to finalize a background by lining, coloring and shading, then adding any desired effects.

Once the background is complete, it’s time to add the characters! But first, let’s use our 3d models to roughly animate the scene in 3d and get an angle and timing we like.

Finally, I use the 3d character reference to help line and shade each character frame.

Add color.

After a few more adjustments we piece it all together…

And Voila!
